Departing from Ushuaia eastwards, we will pass in front
of the industrial section, and we will stop to observe
the complete Old Prison building; later the "Velo de
Novia" waterfall will surprise us. Bordering the base
of Monte Olivia Mount, we will see the majestic Alvear
Sierra. A big peat valley named Carabajal Valley
extended at its foot. Further on, this valley changes
its name for Valley of the Huskies, Tierra Mayor and
Cotorras Valley. At Rancho Hambre point, the route begins
to ascend; the best view of Fagnano and Escondido lakes
can be enjoyed from Paso Garibaldi (at 430 m. over sea
level). After crossing the Andean Range through this
pass, we'll descend to Escondido Lake, where Petrel Inn
is located. Leaving Petrel Inn, we will take National
Route No.3 again to begin the trip to the sawmills area
There, the forest is thicker and more regular. After a
few kilometres,an another road allows us to approximate
the big Fagnano Lake. It is the biggest in Tierra del
Fuego Island, that's why some marine birds overfly its
waters, for example albatrosses and petrels. To return
to Ushuaia, the bus takes National Route No 3, again.
